As a large amount of Jump planning is soon to be underway, it is crucial that you respond to the necessary threads sooner, rather than later. Anyone with a squire should check out this thread if they have not already done so, and all characters need to take a peek here. Adminny things will be done this weekend, so keep an eye out for that as well.

As discussed in this thread, an unbalance in character types has proved a bit of a nuisance, both for some of our players who are very much limited in who they can post with, and for the playing out of various forum plots that need to be set in motion. To this end, it has been decided—by the community as a whole—to place certain limitations on all incoming characters. The types of character available for play will vary based on the country. All accounts to register after the posting (or edits, as the case may be) of this are subject to its restrictions.
TORTALL
Non-list nobility is currently not permitted. List nobility is currently permitted. Palace-dwelling non-nobles are currently permitted. City-dwelling non-nobles are currently encouraged.
BARZUN

Rumours & Proclamations

People are always talking-- probably because there's always something to talk about. This is the place to find exactly that; something to talk about. Here you will find a list of rumours, speculation, gossip, proclamations etc. The closest to a news agency in Tortall as you can get.
All information is divided by the topic of the rumour (not the origin) and are keyed to how truthful the information is.

TORTALL
Tortall and Barzun have declared open warfare. Citizens worry that the gods have turned their favour away from the country, and are looking for the reason why. Grain and food warehouses have been robbed and there's a general lack of food to go around.
CORUS
The cold weather has seemed to cool the tempers of the Rogue, much to the relief of the citizens. Prominent silk merchant, Giacomo Peregrino is on trial in the Temple of the Great Mother Goddess for crimes against women. The Provost Guard have brought Fallon Smithy in for questioning concerning the burning of the Court of the Rogue.
THE PALACE
Carthaki Prince Boaz and The Crown Princes's fianceé are having an affair. Princess Diona's birthday party ended with a physical altercation between the His Royal Highness, Zarian and His Imperial Highness Boaz based on the aforementioned rumour. The late Baron of Seajen's death is still unsolved and his son is suspected as the killer. Prince Boaz vomited on Princess Diona during the Midwinter celebration.
BARZUN
The King of Barzun has ordered raids on Tortallan villages along the border. The Queen of Barzun is due to give birth in late winter or early spring. The Barzunni monarchs have been publically cool to each other within the palace.
CARTHAK
The Emperor is more concerned with the running of his family than the running of the empire.
OTHER NATIONS
Galla is holding its annual tournament marking the early start to the tournament season. The Tortallan Prince and Princess have been seen quite intoxicated in Gallan taverns during the tournament. During the tournament the Gallan Throne in the grand stand spontaneously erupted in flames.

A birthday, as the term implies, is the anniversary of the particular day on which a person was born. Though by no means universal, such occasions are celebrated in numerous cultures, often with a party or, in some instances, a rite of passage.
68.66 percent of votes were in favor of a jump. The OOC date of this jump will be February 21st, 2010, which should give everyone a chance to get more familiar with their characters. Starting mid-November, we will also be ensuring new registrations are aware of the jump. The IC date of the jump is yet to be decided, but will probably be in August or September of whatever year the result is.
Now, however, we must decide how many years - three, four, or five - we intend to jump. Before you vote, take a look at my PERSONAL pro/con lists for each, which are enhanced by some member comments from the former thread, as well as any discussion that goes on in this thread.
THREE YEARS
Pros
The shorter jump will appease the members who weren't too keen on the idea to begin with, but now have to suck it up and suffer through it XD
You don't have to think out as much of your character's life as you would otherwise.
Younger characters would not miss their entire page or squire years, and older characters wouldn't be quite so old.
Cons
Too short a jump has a greater limit on the amount of development - both individually and as a forum - that could occur.

If I had to pick a jump though, it'd be 3 years. 5's too high for me, and 4 just seems... weird. Lol. - Katie
I support a 3 year time-jump. Anything greater than that would make political stuff way to complicated. A lot can happen in 3 years and unless all major characters have sorted out what they've done and what's happened then the 'big picture' is just going to be a lul. - Mary
At this point in time it's still hard for me to process it. But, if it's going to go ahead, I'd prefer three years over five. It's less of a jump, and therefore easier to come to terms with. - Amity
FOUR YEARS
Pros
It's the middling ground between those who want a shorter jump and those who want a longer one.
It would place us in the year 205, a nice, round number. Kayte and Brett like round numbers XD
It would allow for a considerably greater impact on an individual's life than a three year jump, just by virtue of being longer. It would not, however, require as much work as a forum to sort out plot events.
Cons
It's a really weird number.
It's a longer span of time than some would like.

Although I would most like to see a 5 year jump and that's what I've voted towards, if we do wind up doing a time jump I'd say 4 years is a happy medium, even if it's a weird number. xD - Roy
FIVE YEARS
Pros
Allows for the most plot development as a forum and as individuals, and doesn't leave the feeling of being a half-assed jump.
Cons
The members who are already iffy on the idea of a jump would not be the happiest of bunnies.
Miss more of your character's life. (Though we will have the flashbacks forum)
Requires the most work of the three options.

Back on topic, after having time to think and plan, I'm now really hoping for a five year time jump (with my second choice being no jump at all, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen). As my characters are older and their lives are more established, they wouldn't have many life changes in three years. Therefore, a three year time jump wouldn't do much except keep me from playing their current plans and plots. Five years would be more likely to put them in a different stage of life, which would be fun to play. - Misha

Release of Information Schedule
This is the system in which information will be released and the process will go down. One, it allows for maximal secrecy, and two, it gives everyone the information they need to think about what their characters will be doing. There are no dates, just an order in which things will occur.
A date will be finalized, likely the forum's second birthday, as well as the extent of the jump.
Major Plot Players will be informed of their roles.
Canons/other characters with their lives dictated to a certain extent will be informed of the changes they will face.

You read it right - there will be potential exceptions to the jump. It involves a form. You know how much I love forms =D Further details as they become relevant.
Plot meetings will occur via etherpad, and will occur over no set period of time. When a plot is done, the plot is done. I won't stop it after three days when all we've got so far is "Jussy gives birth to a llama". Actually, I will. That's really all the plot anyone needs. Features wishlist meeting will be similar, but via post. And I will actually pay attention to it this time =P
The following has been discussed by staff, who have agreed to put it to a vote.
To freshen up the goings-on hereabouts, I am proposing a time jump in the form of three to five years. Such an event would not take place until after the summer (game time) to allow both for the development of current plot-critical characters who may or may not survive, and so that I can finally kill off Zarian, as has been my intent since the forum opened more than a year and a half ago XD
If we do decide to go along with this (and feel free to discuss below!), it would effect all characters (new members who join after a certain date would be warned of this) and would be a gradual process - appendages would have to be added to profiles explaining what has happened to the character since, characters involved in forum plots will be given some direction (though the forum as a whole will not be aware of all these events till after the fact), and threads from 201 would still be available for posting in a new, Flashbacks forum (also allowing for playing of critical life events that may be missed).
Aside from shaking up you lot and your characters, it would also shake up the very dynamics of the three countries. The development of the subsequent new plot would also be more inclusive, and encompass a broader range of characters.

Once upon a time, there was a forum centered around the life of the civilians of Corus, with a bit of insight into the lives of the nobility that rule them. I don't think any of you remember this, because that forum vanished long before most of you joined. This has always been a bit of a sore spot with me, and with each noble character that joins, my soul dies a little inside.
To an extent, I like noble characters. For one, there's more potential for scandal (-points at Regan and Boaz-) =P For another, it helps to inflate the populations of Barzun and Carthak. Furthermore, they are needed to progress forum plots, such as knights for war, and key political figures. I've got scandal, I've got knights, and I've a bit of activity in the satellite nations. I do not, however, have the suite of characters I need - noble, common, or otherwise - to effectively put any of the forum plots into motion.
I've always been wary about putting limitations on the kinds of characters one can create, because I hate being a hypocrite, and have called such admins all sorts of nasty things XD But I'm at the point where I'm considering all of the following options:
Do nothing. Always a nice, nonconfrontational decision.
Put a temporary ban on non-list nobility in Tortall, so I can actually do what I've been wanting to within the city. Non-list means that we won't have Henry of Henryville coming about, but the family and friends requested already, as well as the roles actually needing filling, are still up for grabs.
Put a temporary ban on non-list nobility in all countries, because, while Barzun could probably make do without commonfolk, the Carthaki plotline is rather dependent on them.
Limit the ratio of noble to non-noble characters a given member is permitted to have. This would not be retroactive.
Require the creation of a common or list-noble character before any others to new members.
Of course, effective plot-bunnies or no, I don't want a Corus with cranky members. That would be absolutely no fun. So. It is utterly and completely down to what you lot want. Vote. Discuss. Throw pies.
Oh, and technically you can vote more than once if you have multiple characters, but I'd rather you didn't. Unless voting with a city-dweller =P

So, I'm sure the observant members of this board were wondering who the new mod was (at least some of you, anyway, 'cause I've seen a few people idly chatting about it) and now is the time for them to be revealed! Unless you've already looked at the list at the top of every page, then you already know that the Great Mother Goddess is none other than....*drumroll*

So. The Timeline has not actually been updated since the forum opened some sixteen months ago. Needless to say, this is unhelpful. Even more needless to say, quite a bit has happened since then.
If you can think of anything that really ought to be added to it, please post below with the event and when it occurred. Please include only major/important events. Sorry, Roy, the opening of the Minnie does not count (=P); Zarian's betrothal, however, does.
So you may or may not have noticed the presence of a new deity on the forum over the past... two days? Ish? If you haven't, I'm disappointed in you, as there have been some clues... such as this...

Getting to the point, it's Lynn! Hooray! If the name Lynn isn't familiar to you (which would be weird o.O) I play Zarian of Conte, Kalen of Seajen, Emrys Weaver, Nathaniel of Richcaffery, and Po Good. And now, Mithros, god of war, fire, the sun, magic, and justice. Which basically translates to "awesomest god ever," so watch out and fear me >=D
