Corus would love more... Canon Characters
Non-Nobles Characters Over Thirty-Five
Carthakis & Barzunnis
Due to need and community agreement, we currently have some restrictions on character types.

It's that time again - we've another Activity Check underway! Be sure to peek in and check out the requirements as soon as possible; part of the process this time around also involves Jump information. New accounts are reminded to get their profiles up promptly - these can count as your IC posts this time around.
We've also begun taking nominations and category suggestions for Corus Votes '09. Care to help us out?
November 20th/09
As a large amount of Jump planning is soon to be underway, it is crucial that you respond to the necessary threads sooner, rather than later. Anyone with a squire should check out this thread if they have not already done so, and all characters need to take a peek here. Adminny things will be done this weekend, so keep an eye out for that as well.
November 16th/09
May war leave is now in affect. Knights on leave may post in Corus once more. Also, check the thread in the Bulletin if your character has a April or May birthday.
Let's take a moment to remember Prince Zarian, who passes into the hands of the Black God before the month of May comes to an end. It's been a long time coming - so long that, unfortunately, we are quite pleased to see him go ^.-
May he rest in peace. Or not.
He'll probably be more entertaining if he doesn't.
(Don't be annoyed, this is just my normal beginning) Well, I'm looking for a Tortall-RPG for a long time now and still haven't found any in my native language (German), just a few in English. But most of them look, like they're inactive. I think 'till now, this is the only board I found, with seems to be active and got new members in this year. So, nevertheless I want to ask, (whether this board is still active and) whether you think I could join, although English isn't my native language. I just learn it at school and because of that I think I'm not very good. But I really would like to try and I hope you could give me a chance and don't laugh so much about my mistakes. So, what do you think? Maj

This board is very much alive and active!
Don't worry about mistakes in languages. If I'm remembering this correctly we have a member from Germany on this board. I think you should join us! Your English seems fine from your post above and we're a creative [crazy] bunch who never laugh at mistakes. Because that's mean. XD

I say join! We do have a member from Germany, Silvia lives in Berlin. I've been in RPs with people all around the world and think it is wonderful. Plus, it is a great way to practice and have fun at the same time.
Thanks for answering so quickly and it's nice to hear that you think I could do this. I just can say, I've never been in an English speaking RPG, but as far as I've seen, I understand the most of what your writing (reading your "laws" and "application guide" at the moment). When I've finished that and have written an own English application, i think, I'll join. And it's funny that you've a member from Germany already. And maybe she can and will help me, if I need that.

^^ Hallo!

Hey Maj!
Like a lot of other players, I don’t know much German. (I think I know about as many words as a two-year-old. If that!) Also like a lot of players, I think you should join if you want to! Corus is a great board. Everyone’s really nice; you can always ask if you don’t understand something, though it seems like you have a good understanding of English. You wouldn’t even be the first player for whom English isn’t a native language.
Plus, you’re from a different culture! Having a variety of players, and therefore characters, always makes things interesting.

My German is limited to "ich liebe mein beer" and "ich bin ein elefant in der wash-maschine" (although my spelling must be terrible), but I do believe I'm the (or one of the) only Frenchie aboard, and it's never troubled me! You'll actually make a lot of friends and end up speaking better English than your classmates Bienvenue à bord!

Welcome to Corus!
Also - kommen'se rein, können'se rausgucken! Ne, im Ernst - this is a crazy, creative, weird, lovely bunch of people, and we'd love to have more players!
(Sorry, for everyone who doesn't understad German.) I hadn't expected that everyone (so it seems to me) offers her/his help and that I'll meet someone who learns German as a foreign language! And I think, Mithros, you're good. I know that language is a little more difficult than English (you only say "the" and in German you have to make a difference between "der, die, das" and so on), but you'll learn it. That my English is a little better, could have something to do with the fact, that I've learn it at school for (let my count) 5 and a half years.
I just wanted to show off a little, too) I can understand, that you are curious, but my parents always sough me not to tell anybody my real name and where I'm from. So I won't say more, than I'm from Germany (what a surprise) and live in the state "Nordrhein-Westfalen".
²Samuel: Everyone starts small (<- I tried to translate a German saying, but it sounds a little wrong: "Jeder fängt mal klein an") So, a very multicultural board *g* And another land without enough Tamora-Pierce-Fans for having a RPG-board in the native language?!
(I know, speaking in a language the most don't understand is unfair, so here a short translation: I've told her that you had told me before, that she's from Germany, too, and that I already know the website, Silvia posted the link to. And that my first RPG was a German Chat-RPG where I'm not a member anymore, because the others were used to be online in the middle of the night.)
To all of you first a very big THANK YOU. And then now I start asking some questions : (before that, I think I have to admit, that I haven't read all of Tamora Pierce's Tortall books until now, because not all of them are translated - just Alanna, Daine [who's called Dhana in the German books] and the first book of Kel and the fist book of Aly [was this the English name of Alannas daughter? - In the translation she's called Lia]. Two years ago I started reading the first book in English [First Test], but didn't understand much. This year I bought "Page" and it was much better to understand. But now I've to wait until I get the other Kel-books and the second one of Aly.)
1.) Do you mean with "sight" the special power for example Aly has? 2.) Is it right, that this RPG is set in the years before the Alanna- or even the Beka-series? 3.) And so there are no immortals at all?
(Well, I know that I can find these things somewhere in the laws and so on - I've read them! - but I think, it's better to ask once more than doning something wrong.)

hey Maj!
As to your questions:
1) No idea. I haven't reread the Aly books in ages, but now I'm going to. 2) Yes 3) Nope, none at all. (though I may be wrong)
Couldn't you have asked MORE questions so I could be more monosyllabic and obfuscatory!? (using small words and not making sense. I have a weird sense of humor.)
We do say 'everyone starts small' or similar things in English--sounds fine to me! And don't sweat it on speaking a language other people don't know. I'm pretty sure we all do that. We've gone Spanish before for periods (C-Box only! Not the whole board!) and I use random Hebrew and Yiddish and... well, let's just say we're all cretins. Lovable, aggravating cretins. Especially Cam.

Bäh! How good that I haven't closed the dictionary, so I could look up these strange words you used. But don't stop using them, I mean, when I'm hanging around here, I could learn something, too. :-)
Oh, so maybe I unpack some Latin skills next time.
Now the break is beginning and I'll get companion. So, have to stop reading all the threads I'll need for writing a application.
Just one thing, what about the fiefdoms listed in this thread, is it allowed to create a character belonging to one of the unplayed ones?

If you want a character belonging to a fiefdom, it's probably easiest to pick one of the unplayed ones. There is a restriction on nobles, though; only nobles from the canon list are being accepted. It's explained here: http://corus.ipbfree.com/index.php?showtopic=1898
This list doesn't seem to be logical in all points. For example is said, that "Duke _____ of Conté, Magistrate" has three children, but you can only play one of them - what about the others? And when you've something like this "______ of _____, Lady-in-Waiting to Princess Diona", is it then allowed to use one of the names of the unplayed fiefdoms?
- But I think I've found something interesting. So, I can try to start with the application.
