Overall Personality ∙ Mckenna is vivacious. Her outlook on life is carpe diem or seize the day. She is the type of person to always want to live life to the fullest. She has a wicked sense of humor; she’ll be the first person to laugh at a joke, and the first to play a prank on someone. She tends to tease people she likes relentlessly, constantly heckling, prodding, poking and generally just harassing them to no end. She does this all in good fun though, it is clear from her body language, that even though she might say something mean, she isn’t doing it to hurt their feelings, she’s just teasing.
Mckenna gets bored easily; she’s one that needs to have constant distractions going on, she has the attention span of a magpie anywhere but the kitchen. She can be compared to a magpie with good reason; she gets easily distracted by shiny things, interesting things, different things, well, it is sufficient to say she gets distracted a lot. She will be in the middle of one task and wander off, abandoning it for Gods know how long. For example, she has a sampler she has been embroidering since she was sixteen. It is only about a third complete.
The only time Mckenna doesn’t really get distracted is when she’s cooking. She views her cooking as her best trait. She even goes as far as to claim that she can appease even the most discerning palate. From a young age she was taught that you can’t get distracted in the kitchen, not only will you ruin dinner, and that is wasteful, but you could cause an accident. She did not believe that her mother was telling the truth and not exaggerating the risk until an eating house burned down one night due to a careless cook. After that Mckenna made sure that when she was cooking, she was paying attention and not accidently adding water to the hot oil instead of the soup simmering.
Mckenna loves hanging out with her friends, even more so than her family. She loves just sitting in a pub with a mug of ale and her friends, telling hilarious stories about the past and laughing until they all pee themselves. She and her friends tend to get a bit rowdy; for example, they were banned from several pubs in Blue Harbor, most notably for table dancing when celebrating her twentieth birthday. She loved her crazy group of friends, they were always ready to do anything, and she hopes that she can find similar people in Corus.
Mckenna is a flirt. She will pretty much flirt with any reasonably attractive man. She doesn’t really mean to do it, that’s just how she is. She isn’t a prude when it comes to sex, but she isn’t loose either. She’ll bed men if she feels like it, but she’s not really into the whole one night stand thing. She’ll flirt with a new guy, make out with him, maybe a bit more, but she won’t go home on a first date unless it’s been a really really long time since the last time she went home with a guy, or she’s drunk, or both, or he was uber cute. Basically, it has to be on her terms.
She’s pretty laid back about many things, if, for example, a customer were to grab her behind and be a jerk about it, she’ll just give him a look and a warning, and if he doesn’t knock it off she’ll get the owner to tell him to back off. If it was in a teasing manner, like a regular, who grabbed her behind and laughed about it, making it a joke, she would just smack him with her notebook and shake her fist and tease right back with a threat that unless he wants to be known as “No-Hands-McGent” he’d better knock it off.
Mckenna is super loyal. Once she makes a friend, she’ll stick by them unless they do something that is just unforgivable, like child molestation or something. She has few true friends, she tends to not share deep personal secrets (not that she has that many, but the point remains) with people, so those who she considers friends are few. Basically, if she feels that she can show up on their door step and tell them that she killed someone, their response should be, “where do we hide the body?”. Not many people meet those terms. She tends to have loads of acquaintances, those people who she likes to talk to, likes to go out drinking with, likes to just bum around with, but not do much else. Basically, she’ll go out drinking with them, but she won’t invite them to her place for a tea and a visit.
Additional Tidbits ∙ -Mckenna is an amazing cook, she learned from her mother and is used to cooking for hungry fisherman when they come in from a long hard days work.
-She does not worship any of the Gods; she turned her backs from them at a young age due to the circumstances around the death of her father
-Wears two pieces of jewelry, a pregnancy charm and small silver hoops in her ears
-Hates the saying ‘never trust a skinny cook’ because she can’t help being thin, but she still cooks like nobody’s business.
-Her signature dish is a fish chowder type thing.
Reflection
Height ∙ 5 feet 6 inches
Overall Appearance ∙ Her face is round, with a slightly pointed chin that is squareish on the bottom. She has a slightly larger than normal nose, a little wider than normal, and slightly hooked, think a toned down Barbra Streisand. Her hair is wavy and reaches mid back with some locks cut short to frame her face. Her hair is a beautiful strawberry blond (more strawberry than blond) in the summer and in the winter is a darker red. Her lips are full and a soft pink color. The most stunning thing about her, however, is her eyes. They are large and wide set with a slight almond shape, framed with thick curling lashes, and they are a bright, vivid, emerald green. Her pale red brows arch neatly over, framing the luminous green orbs.
Mckenna is on the tall side and average weight, she is neither fat nor thin but quite healthy. Before moving to Corus she swam in the ocean every day as her form of exercise, so she is toned. No matter how much she works out she won’t be super thin, she will always have some heft to her, but a healthy sort of build, not sickly. Her hips gently slope out, she has an average bosom and an average behind, giving her something of an hourglass figure. She takes after her mother in this respect, her fathers folk were the stout, boxy type, her mother’s family were taller and leaner, Mckenna is a good mix of both types.
She has decent skin, every now and then she still gets an outbreak, but for the most part her teenage spots are behind her, and her skin is fairly unmarked. She is pale, being a red head, and prone to freckles and burning rather than tanning. In the heat of the summer, if she goes out doors for long she has to wear a huge straw hat to keep her face from burning.
Backstory
Family History ∙ The Lennox family has lived in Blue Harbor for as long as anyone can remember. They are fisher folk, living and dying by the rhythm of the waves. Mckenna’s grandfather was a fisherman, his father was a fisherman, all her uncles and cousins are fisherman. The Lennox family was proud of their heritage; they have worked hard to build themselves up to a moderate status. At the time of his death, Michael sent out three boats every morning, more than any other single man in Blue Harbor. Mckenna’s parents married in 170, when Michael was 21 and Lurlene was 18. They had grown up together, both the children of fisherman in the same neighbor hood, they traveled in the same circle of friends. They had been friends since practically birth; their mothers were friends so they grew up together. It was assumed by everyone they would marry, and when Michael was promoted to captain of his father’s boat, they married.
Mckenna’s mother’s family, the Fishers, were by vast majority fisherman and all of the future generations are assumed to be fisherman. One rogue branch, Mckenna’s mother’s younger sister’s daughter, Tabitha (in short, Mckenna’s cousin), married a fletcher and they moved from Blue Harbor to Corus. The Fletchers have lived in Corus for five years and have two small children. Other than that, everyone else is a fisherman.
Family ∙FatherMichael Lennox- fisherman, born 149 died in 182, at the age of 33. Mckenna and her father were close, she was defiantly a daddy’s girl. Since he died when she was still quite small, she doesn’t have many memories of him, but what she does have are good ones.
MotherLurlene Lennox nee Fisher- housewife/cook, born 152, age 49. Lurlene is a strong woman, the oldest child in her family, who has no problems bossing people around. Because of this Mckenna and her mother butted heads when she was growing up, but they had since moved past that and developed a good relationship. When her husband died she quit her job as a cook at an eating house and took over running his company, she has it running just as well as it was before he died.
SiblingsThomas Lennox/Tracy Lennox nee Williams- Fisherman, born October 171, turns 30 in 201. Thomas is Mckenna’s oldest brother. He married his wife Tracy ten years ago and they have three children.
Peggy and Maria Thompson/ Martin Thompson and Victor Thompson- housewives, born January 174, age 27 in 201. Mckenna’s older twin sisters. Mckenna teases them that they are creepy because they married brothers, but Peggy and Maria ignore her jests, since that’s just the way it happened. Peggy and Martin marred seven years ago and have four children, and Maria and Victor married six years ago and have one child.
Jordan Lennox, fisherman, born March, 180, age 21. Mckenna’s younger brother. He is not married but has been dating Bethany Trevelyan for three years.
Michael Lennox, AKA Young Michael when necessary to differentiate between him and his late father. Fisherman, born December, 182, age 18, single. Michael never met his father because Old Michael died a few months before he was born. Because of this he was named after his father.
CousinsTabitha Fletcher- housewife, born September 177 HE, age 23. Tabitha and Mckenna grew up together since they are cousins and the same age. It just made sense for them to be friends. When Tabitha married and moved to Corus, knew that they couldn’t be in as close as they used to be, but they did their best to stay in touch. Before Tabitha and Jeffery left for Corus, the told Mckenna if she ever wanted to stay with them, she was more than welcome.
Jeffrey Fletcher- Fletcher, born February 175 HE, age 26. Jeffrey and Tabitha married six years ago and moved from Blue Harbor to Corus where he set up his own shop in Upmarket making arrows. He is a hard worker, stern but fair.
Lottie Fletcher- born May 197, age 4. Daughter of Tabitha and Jeffery, very precocious.
Philippa Fletcher- born January 201, age three months. Daughter of Tabitha and Jeffery, often sick with colic.
Birthplace ∙ Blue Harbor, Tortall
Background ∙ Mckenna was born to a lower middle class family in Blue Harbor, Tortall. Her parents were simple fisher folk, Michael and Lurlene. Mckenna was their forth child, and third girl. Growing up she spent her days at home with her mother, but when her father got home from a long day out on the sea, she clung to him like there was no tomorrow. She was clearly a daddy’s girl, something her mother slightly resented. Mckenna looked the most like Lurlene out of all their children, Mckenna and her mother share red hair, while the others are varying shades of brown. For some reason Lurlene really wanted Mckenna to bond with her over Michael, but Mckenna would always choose her father over her mother, that is, if she was forced to make the choice.
When Mckenna was 5, her father died. Money was tight, and he and his crew decided that they were going to do one last run before the storms came in off of the wild north Emerald Ocean. The were weighed and measured, and found wanting in the books of the Wave-Walker, for instead of being merciful and banishing the unexpected storm, the entire crew perished. Mckenna was heartbroken, she cried for weeks over the death of her father, once she realized that Daddy was never coming back, and what exactly never meant.
Then it was just Lurlene and the children left. Lurlene quite her job as head cook for a rather upscale eating house and took over running her husband’s business with the help of her brother in law Samson. Together they held together the business, adding Samson’s ship to the two that remained of Michael’s. Most of the crews stuck with Lurlene and continued to work loyally for her, partly because a good many of them were family, and partly because they knew the Lennox family and felt terrible for their loss.
The rest of Mckenna’s life passed pretty calmly, she grew up and took care of her younger siblings and her nieces and nephews. Her life was calm to the point of being boring, she felt that nothing exciting ever happened in her life. During these years she learned the basics of reading, writing and simple math, but only to the equivalent of a third or forth grade education in today’s word. She perfected her cooking, her specialty is fish soup. She got a job at an eating house close to the docks when she was seventeen and worked there until March of 201 when she abruptly left Blue Harbor for Corus.
In March Mckenna decided to move to Corus to stay with her cousins because she found the atmosphere of Blue Harbor to be oppressive. She had gotten into a funk, she felt that every day was the same thing, day after day, as similar as the changing of the tides. Mckenna started to feel oppressed by the monotony of her life in Blue Harbor. Ever day she woke up, went to work, came home, and watched her nieces and nephews while her brothers were out at sea. After a long winter of storms, she couldn’t take Blue Harbor anymore. When she decided she needed something different, she saved up enough money to send a letter to her cousin Tabitha, taking up the offer that Tabitha made when they moved, if she ever wanted to stay with them, she could.
