ACCOUNTS∙ Usernames should be the
First and
Last names of the character (foe example, Kenton Fletcher); in the case of nobility, their
First name, followed by ‘of’ and their
Fief or City Name (for example, Adonais of Melor) is preferred.
» Foreign nobility are the exception to this rule. Yamani nobility are to register with their first name, followed by ‘noh’ and their last name (Yukimi noh Daiomoru). Carthaki nobility may register simply with a first and last name. Scanran nobility are to substitute ‘fa’ for ‘of’.
»Additionally, your character should not be named after a pre-existing fictional character, nor after a real person. The exception to this is characters sharing the name of one in the Tortallan universe, and only for male nobility.
∙ One account per character.
∙ Accounts that go longer than two weeks without posting a profile will be deleted.
∙ Accounts that go longer than two weeks after a staff member has categorized their profile as ‘pending’ without making any changes will be deleted.
∙ If you're going to be away,
please let us know
here.
∙
All posted applications
must be completed, or
noted by a staff member as being "cleared" as a work-in-progress due to legitimate reason, to avoid unneeded clutter.
» This should be noted in the topic description by the approving member of staff.
» The list of forum staff can be found in the information box at the top of the forum in the lower-left corner.
∙ Your account’s signature should have a link to your character’s profile.
∙
As of July 7th, 2009, it is asked that members restrict themselves to making a new character only after five in character posts have been achieved with existing accounts, to a maximum of five characters ("Foreigner Clause" excepted). It is also ask that you be a member for at least a month before creating a third character.
CHARACTERS∙ It’s asked that members have no more than five different characters.
» Members may have a sixth character, provided each current character has at least ten in-character posts, and the new character resides in either Carthak or Barzun (ie, will not be posting in any Tortallan forums).
» Members may even have a seventh character, provided the first six each have ten in-character posts or more, and the new character resides in Barzun or Carthak (if they already have a character in one but not the other, it should be in the country in which they are not already playing).
∙ Characters may not be royalty unless they are listed on the
canon list.
∙ Unless specifically noted (either specified, or noted as "optional"), canon characters do not have magic of any kind.
∙ It is asked you follow these guidelines when creating characters with magic:
» Gifted characters must receive some level of training; how much is dependent on the strength of their gift. A simple hedgewitch could learn from another hedgewitch, and so it wouldn't matter how wealthy the character is. Someone with a moderate gift could learn from someone else with a moderate gift, and so should have some level of money—if your character has a trained gift and lives in the Lower City, or is a commoner who received an unusual level of education, we want to know where that money came from. It could be training as simple as control from a neighboring merchant (more or less the cheapest you can get), but in such cases, the character wouldn’t be able to do much with it. Characters with high levels of magic are discouraged, but permitted, however would need to attend either the City of the Gods or a university, and so even a merchant would have to scrimp to receive the appropriate training. Alternatively, your character could forgo training, but they would be unable to voluntarily use their magic an may wind up arrested for inadvertently blowing something up.
» Sighted characters should keep in mind that they’re not an all-knowing god, however require no training in general, and not much to do more specific tasks.
» If you would like to give your character Wild Magic, this must be minimal, or your character must be insane. Wild magic may only be had with mammals, fish, birds, and reptiles (no insects), and may not involve speech (there are some exceptions; PM a member of staff if you’re uncertain), healing, or shapeshifting.
∙ Knights must be at least twenty to have a fourteen-year-old squire, twenty-one for a fifteen-year-old, etc. Knights may also only have one squire.
IN-CHARACTER POSTING∙ Members are not permitted to post IC until their character has been approved
∙ Members are expected to be mature and know what is and is not appropriate as far as content is concerned. If you think what you post might cause other players discomfort, either rewrite or post a warning in the topic description. That being said, no graphic sex. At all.
∙ Posts are to be written in third person, past tense.
∙ While there is some wiggle-room, we ask that all posts be a minimum of
300 words.
» Song lyrics, poetry, and the like do not count towards this minimum as more than fifty words.
∙ Under no circumstances will chatspeak or l33tspeek be accepted in character. Posts containing such will be deleted without warning.
∙ It is recommended that members run their posts through a word processor if possible to catch any major spelling or grammatical errors.
∙ Font is to stay at the default color and size unless otherwise stated.
∙ Controlling another's character ("God-Modding") is forbidden. This includes making assumptions about one's character - for example, that they have a crush/are madly in love with yours.
∙ While character deaths are allowed, players must first discuss the matter with an administrator. Additionally, it is important to note that once a character is dead, you cannot bring them back.
∙ If a topic is labeled as 'closed', or it's indicated that the poster desires a specific person to reply (that isn't you), please be considerate and don't post.
∙ Please refrain from OOC chatter as much as possible.
Some is alright, if you must, but IC forums are for IC posts. This is what PMs are for, people XD
∙ It's asked that all threads be
timestamped.
OUT OF CHARACTER POSTING
Rules Also Apply to Chatango∙ Spam will result in your being fed to an evil doom ferret.
∙ At the risk of sounding like an after-school special, treat others as you wish to be treated.
∙ If you have an issue with a player, don't call them out in the boards or Cbox - either discuss it through PM or, if needed, contact a mod or admin.
∙ Advertisements are restricted to the appropriate board – no advertising through PM, the Cbox, or your signature. You may, however, link to it through your account’s profile if you so desire.
∙ Language. While the administrator, personally, doesn’t really care what you blather on about – or the terminology you use to do so –
please bear in mind that everyone has different sensitivities, and respect those around you.
IMAGES∙ Avatars are not required, but are permitted.
» Avatars are to be 150 x 150 pixels in size.
» Avatars should be a visual representation of your character. No pencils, no bunnies, no band logos, etc.
» Recognizable faces (actors, musicians, politicians, models, anime characters, etc.) need to be claimed. Please refrain from making such a claim until your profile has been approved.
∙ The
total size of images in one’s signature is not to exceed 500px in width, and 200px in height. For example, if you were using rows of icons, you could use no more than two rows of five.
∙ Posted images should not stretch the board.
