So I'm doing a digital painting of my cousin Dane for my aunt, uncle and grandparents. And so far it's going okay... I still think he looks like a peach blob and is definitely not as cute as he is in real life.
Any suggestions on texturing fabric? I don't want it to have the same texture consistency as his skin. Speaking of which, any suggestions on how to make his skin look more like skin?
The program I'm using is Photoshop CS3 if that helps... D:

I am no artist, so I can't help you with pointers. But I did want to let you know that the picture looks wonderful to me! I think you've done an amazing job so far. I really like it!

Aw, thanks. He's much cuter in real life... trust me!
I just wish somebody could help me with this digital colouring. I have no clue what I'm doing.

I do a lot of digital artwork and I use a tablet to do it, although I've never attempted realism. Personally, I agree with Gwillym - it looks great! I think you should just stick with it and keep going. Alternatively, you could run a search on realistic digital painting or something to see how others do it, even just to use as a reference.
Sorry I can't be of more use. x.x

<3 it
Can I have a copy of it when you're done please Roy? = )
So cute....
I used to do textured stuff. But I cheated. I Googled the texture I wanted (like, sand, but close up), saved the pic I wanted. Turned it the right colour, then (I don't know what PS terms are, I use GIMP) I just overlayed it (there are usually dozens of options) and changed the transparency until I got what I wanted.
Saves actually creating the textures

Small search on Deviantart turned up a few tutorials.
Thanks. The tutorial I was working with was from Adonihs who is an AWESOME artist but he's more likely to teach you how to colour a badass space marine instead of a a peachy toddler. xD

I tried looking for ones that dealt with texture but most of them wanted to tell me over and over again how to colour skin.

Yeah, I can second you on that. And everybody has a different style. It would be slightly easier for me if I had a tablet, but since I'm too cheap to buy one, I'm sticking with my mouse. I guess I'll have to tweak with things. Adonihs does extremely high resolution so he can go in and add minute details like wrinkles and pores on a small scale so that when you zoom out it has texture. Except his stuff always turns out so rugged... and I don't need a mountain man baby. xD

Now I have a mental image of a baby with like week old stubble. And I almost want to draw such a thing.

The funny thing is––if I could get the pictures off my cellphone––that he was born with sideburns. lmao. I'm not lying either. They've since faded away, but he seriously had sideburns for the first few weeks of his life.

oh wow. hairy baby! I was born with white blond hair (and eyelashes!) that people thought I had no hair. But I did.
I think sometimes baby have extra weird hair from their time in the womb but it disappears. Sideburns though. That's pretty cool. And something you can tease him about later in life.

Haha, well we did call him Monkeyboy for a while. Now he's got nicknames like Schnickelbutz and Squirts.

My little brother was born with lots of hair, and then about half of it fell off on day two - leaving him with a thin ring around his head but nothing on top. He seriously looked like a little old man. It was really funny and cute.
