Introductions

Character’s Name ∙ Lyona of Meag Marsh
Age ∙ 17
Gender ∙ Female
Residing ∙ The Palace
Character Class ∙ Noble
Occupation ∙ Squire

Mindset

Sexual Orientation ∙ Heterosexual
Overall Personality ∙ Lyona is bright, bubbly, and an endless optimist. She has endless energy and infinite enthusiasm for even the most menial of tasks and makes no effort to hide it. One simple question directed at Lyona can result in a novel-long response and she says anything that crosses her mind, whether or not it is entirely appropriate. However, she is always good intentioned and that is apparent to most people. She is outgoing and very friendly, she is very easy to get along with and she makes friends easily, though she can be slow to catch on when she is not wanted.

There is a streak of innocence and perhaps naivety in Lyona, she wants to know everything about everything but often lessons only sink in superficially. Lyona is an emotional girl, the smallest thing can set her off in a crying fit or temper tantrum. Her emotions are very volatile and unpredictable, but the positive side is that the foul moods are usually short lived. Her usual demeanor is a cheerful one, she smiles most of the time and can be heard laughing at most anything.

Lyona is a true romantic at heart, she loves flowers and poetry and she can’t get enough of knights. She spends a fair amount of her time stalking knights, falling in love with them in a matter of seconds, then eventually falling out of love with them, only to find a new one almost instantly. Lyona would like nothing more than to find a suitable husband, but she can’t seem to fall in love for more than a week or two at a time. Her idea of love is the storybook type; she wants the drama of a true romance. Lyona keeps a diary, which she fills with gossip, silly love poems, sketches of dresses, and pours out her feelings about her latest beau.

It is very easy to hurt Lyona’s feelings, she’s terribly sensitive, but an apology can just as easily undo the damage. However, it can be a bad idea to hurt her feelings just because of the drama that it would cause, she can be very childish, especially when she is angry.

Lyona seems an odd fit for a knight, and in fact, when she was a page she was very much a tomboy but since then she kind of grew out of being a tomboy and became “girly.” However, she is vaguely competent at knightly activities and because that life is all she really knows, she doesn’t think that she can abandon it to become a lady. Besides, the training field is the perfect place to meet all the eligible bachelors.

Reflection

Height ∙ 5’9”
Weight ∙ 119
Overall Appearance ∙ Lyona is tall with an average weight, if on the thin side because she is very careful about what she eats. Lyona has a long neck and the rest of her is rather lean and mildly boney, she is muscular from knight training but she has never been able to truly bulk up her muscles. Her hair is long and blonde, it has a bit of a natural curl and if not restrained it will surely go wild. She has a rather large nose that has a bump on the top, compliments of page training. Lyona’s mouth is strangely large and wide, when she laughs it seems especially so. Her lips are thin and they are always moving and her eyes are a light blue color, though her eyelashes don’t frame them well because they are so thin and blonde.

Her features are delicate and neutral so when she tries to dress herself up a little she never looks quite as good as she does naturally. However, that does not stop her from trying, she is always fixing her hair and adding a little color to her face without realizing that she looks best without it.

Lyona has light skin that can burn easily, but will tan and freckly in the warmer months. She is light on her feet and is rather agile, however, she is not very strong, especially in her arms. Lyona can move fast and she is a good runner, but anything requiring strength is difficult for her.

Backstory

Family History ∙ Meag Marsh is a small, out of the way fief that mostly gets ignored or forgotten because it is literally in the middle of a marsh. The marsh smells a little strange and farming can be tedious at best, for most of Meag Marsh’s history the noble family hasn’t been terribly respected because they were never very wealthy. However, Lyona’s grandfather was highly respected as a knight, finally bringing some notoriety to the small fief at long last. He was the commander of the King’s Own for several decades before he was killed on the battle field.

Lyona’s father, Keil, and brothers were raised on legends of her grandfather’s greatness, he was a great pride for the family and no one at Meag Marsh would let him be forgotten. Keil entered training for knighthood with mixed success, he was doing well as far as training and skills but a knee injury took him out of training and sent him home before he could complete training. At home he took up the duties of the inheritor of the fief, he was the only son and fit nicely into the role, his mother happy just to have someone to take care of the fief. She was as proud of her husband as anyone else, but she worried constantly when Keil was in training and having him home was a great source of relief. She encouraged him to stay home even after his knee healed.

Family ∙ Keil of Meag Marsh- Father
Anita of Meag Marsh- Mother
Maere of Meag Marsh- Grandmother
Gerga- Older sister (24)
Typette- Older sister (21)
Doyn- Younger brother (14)
Miani- Younger sister (12)

Birthplace ∙ Meag Marsh
Background ∙ When Keil of Meag Marsh, Lyona’s father, was training as a knight, before he was injured, he met an outspoken lady at court. Her name was Anita and she was very rebellious and well educated, Keil started up a relationship with her while he was training for knighthood and away from home. He fell madly in love with her because she was so head strong, but when he returned home because of his knee injury they had to part. Thinking that she would immediately find someone new, Keil despaired of ever ending up with her, however, she surprised him by paying him a visit at Meag Marsh not long after he was forced to return home.

Keil’s mother, Maere, was not crazy about Anita, she was a good deal more traditional than Anita. Despite this, the relationship grew, Anita got more and more comfortable at Meag Marsh with Keil. Because of her strong outlook on life, she proposed to Keil and he accepted. Maere was never very pleased about this, but she went along with it for awhile, however Anita and Maere began fighting soon after the engagement. The two were constantly at each other’s throats and Maere was told that she could not attend the wedding, which she insisted on doing anyways. More fighting ensued. Keil preferred to keep out of the fighting, taking neither his mother’s side nor his new wife’s.

When Anita started having children things didn’t get any better, Maere and Anita couldn’t agree how to raise the children. They disagreed about everything from what were good ethics to how often children should be eating peas. Keil virtually disappeared from the home, preferring to avoid the battle ground. The older two children, Gerga and Typette, tended to side with Maere, they were very proper and traditional, which fit well with Maere. The younger two children, Doyn and Miani, sided more with Anita and Lyona, the middle child, settled somewhere in the middle between the two.

Because Gerga and Typette were so traditional, they selected the convent as their education of choice. Both left home at the proper age with no regrets, writing home mostly to Maere and occasionally to Anita. The letters to Anita were always short and stiff, they would not dare to refuse to write to their mother, but it was difficult to talk to her because she was so negative about the convent. Anita doesn’t think that women should parade themselves around like cattle, which she thinks are the sole purpose of convents and doesn’t hesitate to say this.

The younger two children were untraditional, Doyn refused to hit anyone so knight training was out of the question. His current goal is to become a wandering minstrel and spends his days learning songs and writing his own attempts at poems and songs. Maere was horrified that her only grandson could turn out to be so decidedly un-masculine. Miani spends her days reading, she intends to attend to University when she is old enough, although the family probably won’t have enough money to send her. She is completely indifferent towards any ladylike art and enjoys wandering town to mingle with the commoners and learn about their lives, something that irritates Maere to no end.

Lyona, on the other hand, had never really sided with her mother or her grandmother. She always followed her father around as a child and she even still is always looking for his attention. A classic middle child, she felt like no one ever paid much attention to her so signing up for knighthood seemed like a good idea for attention from her family, especially her father. Lyona had always been a tomboy and knighthood seemed so romantically wonderful, she could not resist.

Page training was a big change for Lyona, she was homesick for most of it but she made a few close friends. She didn’t get along with a lot of the pages because they were so sensible and hardworking and Lyona was such a dreamer that they didn’t always mix well. However, she got through the training and was selected by a knight to be his/her squire for some reason. Lyona isn’t entirely sure why he/she chose her, but she was just grateful for the chance to continue on with her training. She wasn’t sure that anyone would choose her, she is not completely incompetent at knightly activities but she is certainly no champion at them. She tries with endless enthusiasm though, trying her best to make her family proud.

Somewhere during her training she discovered a love of dresses and hairdos. She has always loved a good romance and her favorite tales are ones of daring knights and damsels in distress, but when she reached about sixteen she started wanting a little of that for herself. She knows that because she is a knight such a thing in her life will be a little more rare, but she still dreams of it anyways. Lyona has always been a little dreamy, but now mixed with her new-found girly side, she can be a little much for a sensible knight. However, that does not deter her from trying, her confidence is amazing and she has fallen in love hundreds of times over the last few years, only to be disappointed, then bounce back.
