Sexual Orientation ∙ Heterosexual
Overall Personality ∙ Aurelia is a merchant's daughter deep inside and this makes her dependable and down-to-earth. She isn’t some flighty noble woman nor is she a rugged lower class with a mouth like a sailor. She’s a happy medium between the two. In her childhood, Aurelia never went hungry but her family never wasted food. Despite her family being involved with politics and being part of the elite, Aurelia had chores to do as a child but was also able to access the education that is normally reserved for the nobility. From this she has formed an agreeable personality, Aurelia doesn’t like to start fights but she does like to solve problems to find a solution that makes everyone involved reasonably pleased.
Aurelia is polite and holds her tongue, even if she thinks someone is completely out of line or just plain crazy, though not always will this stop her from giving weird looks. She is practical minded in everything and tends to be sensible when it comes to emotions and choices. Seeing everything as profits and losses helps her in calculating choices. However loyalty and the notion of loyalty to the crown is something that Aurelia extends beyond this sensibility and is the closest to romance as she gets. This state of being of unending loyalty is something she sees in the lady knights she met as a girl and even in her parents with their devotion to one another, she is also finding it in her knight master Elwood, though to be honest, Aurelia wonders if her knight master knows how to bend. Perhaps though, that’s the difference between a merchant and a noble.

Height ∙ 5'4"
Weight ∙ 120 lbs
Overall Appearance ∙ Aurelia is a short petite young woman, her curves are in the middle of appearing. She has small hips and a small chest, growing slowly which Aurelia likes because it cuts down on seamstress costs of continually letting her dresses out. it also means that hopefully she won't have to pay for refitting her armor. Aurelia manages to be petite without looking delicate.
She has a heart shaped face with friendly light blue and almost almond shaped eyes, framed with long dark lashes. Aurelia has a straight, small, nose and full lips. She has pale skin that with her work in the field has darkened a little but also brought out freckles that are sprinkled along her nose, cheeks and forehead. Her long almost black hair has lightened in the sun, to a dark brown. She's happy for this because it makes her think less about the whispers of her looking like the Goddess to punish her mother.
Backstory
Family History ∙ The Pesaro family is one of the most distinguished Tyran families. It's sons have almost always sat on the Council of Lords and Aurelia's grandfather was the previous Duke of Tyra, the appointed head of state. The Pesaro family make its money and power in merchant dealings and owning large tracts of land along the inland sea. Aurelia's father, Zuane Pesaro is currently the Tyran Ambassador to Tortall.
Aurelia's mother, Eliana comes from the D'Este family, another old Tyran family who made and make their money in lace.
Family ∙ Father: Zuane Pesaro (47)
Mother: Eliana D'Este, wife of Pesaro (45)
Brother: Mattes Pesaro (21)
Knight Master: Elwood of Brightleigh (27)
Birthplace ∙ Pesaro House, Tyra, Tyra.
Background ∙ Zuane Pesaro met Eliana at the opening of a new harbour. Eliana was at the opening ceremony as a Priestess of the Great Goddess, having taken her vows the year before. The two were immediately attracted to one another and soon found they had much in common with interests and opinions. The only thing keeping them apart was the fact that Eliana had taken her vows as a priestess. Tyra is known for its large and joyous midsummer festival where there are great carnivals around the city and anyone who’s anyone is at the Duke of Tyra's masked ball. Eliana had slipped away from her temple and dressed in a mix between the fashionable clothes she wore as a daughter of the D'Este family and the robes of the priestess, to be hidden within her own identity, since no one would expect a priestess to be there. Zuane and Eliana met at the party and rushed to a Mithran priest (for a priestess of the goddess would recognize her) and married each other, Eliana betraying her vows that she took and Zuane his family who should have had more say in his marriage.
Their families were aghast at the lapse in judgment their children made, the High Priestess of Eliana's temple was furious, because not only did Eliana break her vows but the temple had also lost the money that Eliana's family would have donated over the years. However Zuane and Eliana ignored all the complaints because they were legally married and both of the same high birth. They settled down and soon enough Eliana presented Zuane with his first son, Mattes. Golden haired like both his parents, Mattes was the delight of everyone. He was a cheery baby and helped smooth relations between the couple and their families. Mattes was the delight of his grandfather before he passed away when Mattes was four. The next midwinter, Eliana and Zuane announced they were going to be having their second child.
Aurelia was born the second child, and first daughter to Zuane and Eliana Pesaro in the Pesaro palace in the city of Tyra. The couple had hoped for another golden child like Mattes and were delighted when Aurelia was born with a head of golden curly hair and bright blue eyes. Eliana named her 'Aurelia' meaning gold. However, soon enough, Aurelia's hair darkened to a dark brown, almost black. Whispers said that it was the Goddess, giving Eliana a permanent reminder of the Goddess she betrayed. However Eliana refused to believe that the Goddess would be so vindictive.
Aurelia turned out to be a golden child, just like her brother, despite her dark hair. Her eyes faded to a blue-grey as she became a toddler. Mattes and Aurelia, despite the age difference were good friends during their childhood, playing with their cousins in the Pesaro palace. Aurelia spent a lot of her childhood on her father's knee, learning trade and politics from him. Eliana was a traditional lady in her younger years but an untraditional mother. As long as Aurelia knew her manners and kept her dresses clean, Eliana didn't care what Aurelia was up to.
She was eight years old when her father received the honour of becoming the Tyran Ambassador to Tortall. It was then that Aurelia begged her parents to let her follow him there. Eliana was staying to manage the household of which, after his father's death, Zuane became the head of. Mattes stayed to help her and learn the family businesses from his uncles. She and her father settled down in the Ambassador's house in the Flash district of Corus. It is set along the river to ease home sickness that Tyrans felt without their water ways. Zuane hired a tutor for Aurelia who continued her education, focusing on getting the girl ready to present to the Tortallan court when she was older and to accustom her to the different culture. Aurelia also spent much of her time in the well-to-do markets in Corus, learning the markets and the economy of the city, bonding well with the Tyran merchants who have settled in Tortall.
However, it was in the great library of the Ambassador's house that Aurelia found her calling. Rainy days and most of the afternoons were spent in this comforting room, where the young girl read books on every subject. It was the tales of lady knights and their exploits that enchanted and fascinated Aurelia. What stirred her the most was their loyalty to the Tortallan crown. Tyra, ruled by the Council of Lords, the aristocracy, never expected loyalty from its citizens like the lady knights felt. The only loyalty Aurelia ever saw in Tyra was loyalty to one's family and one's interests. This higher state of loyalty was almost magical to her, it was perhaps this magic essence, or perhaps her youth, but Aurelia assumed these lady knights were fiction, a dream of a romantic writer.
When it was soon to be Aurelia's ninth birthday, Zuane approached the Convent of the Great Mother Goddess to see if they would take Aurelia on as a student. They flatly refused. the story of Zuane and Eliana's betrayal was still fresh throughout the priestess hood and they were not ready to accept a Pesaro daughter into their ranks. Zuane was devastated that he couldn't provide the best education for his daughter. Aurelia on the other hand was slightly relieved, after hearing stories and rumours about how her mother had been treated for following her heart, and the talk about her being the Goddess's revenge, Aurelia had not been looking forward to spending eight years with them.
While continuing with her studies, she mentioned off and about how she loved the stories about the lady knights to her tutor. Her tutor was surprised she was so mistaken about this, and informed her of not only the history of lady knights in Tortall, but some of the current lady knights and girls working for their shield. With permission from her father, Aurelia met and talked with lady knights to learn how hard their job was and what exactly they did. It was then that she realized she wanted to test her own dedication with this hard path.
Aurelia discussed it with her father and they decided that Aurelia would try for her shield in Tortall after discussing the issue with the Tortallans. This meant that when Aurelia would be knighted she was giving up her Tyran loyalties and even has to defend Tortall from her homeland if the unthinkable ever happened. She was prepared for this, knowing full well from the beginning what she would have to do. Over the next few months Aurelia trained her hardest to get ready for being a page. She was active enough but knew what was coming would be hard. She had help from the lady knights she met and her father found a Shang to help her with the basics of combat.
The years of being a page were an eye opener for Aurelia but she refused to back down. The other pages were harder on her because she was neither Tortallan nor a traditional tomboy. To many conservative families she was too close to being a merchant's daughter but the lasting memory of her grandfather kept them from saying too much. Aurelia passed her page exams and waiting diligently through most of the summer for a knight master. Eventually, Elwood of approached Aurelia and she accepted with glee, excited to finally have a knight master.
